A new wood floor is beautiful but delicate: here are 8 essential tips to protect it from the start.

From chaos to care: safeguarding your new wood floor.

A wood floor is like a freshly stretched canvas: beautiful, alive, but also delicate. In the chaos of renovation work, dust, and moving furniture, protecting it at the right time can make the difference between a surface that lasts a season and one that stays with your home for decades.

Here are a few practical — yet not obvious — tips to care for it from day one.

[01] Don’t skip the manual.

Each finish (oil or lacquer) has its own specific care routine. That’s where maintenance begins: read the right guide and keep it handy. A well-maintained floor isn’t just more beautiful: it lasts longer too.

[02] Inspect it carefully.

Take a slow walk through your space with a critical eye: are there any scratches, dents, uneven edges? This is the moment to report them, before furniture and rugs make them disappear.

[03] Always protect it.

If renovation work is still ongoing, cover the floor properly. Heavy paper or fibreboard work well, but if your wood floor is oiled, never tape anything directly onto the surface. You could leave permanent marks.

[04] One last walkthrough.

Once all work is complete, do a final check. Small imperfections are easier to notice when you're not distracted by the chaos of construction. It’s better to address them now than live with them forever.

[05] Dust is a silent enemy.

It may look harmless, but construction dust is tricky. And no, don’t mop it right away. Water will just turn it into sludge. Start by vacuuming (more than once), and only then mop carefully, giving the dust time to settle.

[06] Wood breathes: keep it in balance.

Humidity and temperature swings are the long-term threats. A good humidifier (or dehumidifier) isn’t a luxury: it’s an investment in the health and stability of your floor.

[07] Move with care.

Furniture that moves — chairs, tables, sofas — should always have felt pads under their legs. Entry mats are also a good idea: they help trap dust and grit before it gets to your floor.

[08] The first month matters.

If your floor has an oil finish, clean it weekly with the proper soap for the first month. This will nourish the surface and build a protective base. After that, you can shift to your regular cleaning routine.

Whatever your vision, we have surfaces that bring it to life: beautifully, naturally, and with purpose.
